Kelda Files Open Records Request for Walker Communications with Mining Industry

December 12, 2011

MADISON, WI – Rep. Roys today submitted an open records request to Governor Scott Walker, demanding all communications with Gogebic Taconite regarding the 183-page Republican mining bill released Friday.

“Many conservation leaders believe this bill is a massive handout to big corporate polluters and the mining industry,” said Rep. Roys.  “Secret corporate-drafted bills are bad for Wisconsin and the public deserves to know how much influence lobbyists for out-of-state mining companies had in drafting this bill.”

The open records request specifically seeks all documents and communications, including electronic documents and phone records, between Gov. Walker and staff with any official or representative of Gogebic Taconite, or relating to mining.  To assist the public in understanding the mining bill, Rep. Roys will publicly release all documents received as a result of the request.  The request letter is available here.
